Urgent Appeal to Purchase Land
NEW BATHING, GRAZING AND MUD AREA WITH VIEWING PLATFORM.
It's now becoming imparative that we move forward as fast as possible to obtain some land where all the Elephants can enjoy a secure area where they will be able to roam freely and enjoy bathing in water and mud. The friends of the Hutsadin Elephant foundation are asking for your help in raising funds to purchase this land. It is estimated that we need to acheive at least Two Million Thai Baht to secure the best available land.
I would like to take this opportunity to impress on you the importance of having a facility that not only hydrates the elephants but allows them to enjoy each others company socially.
Elephants are highly dependant on water, not only for drinking but also for their skin and general hygiene. Wild elephants still today enjoy a daily bath if its possible, and they should be showered daily in captivity. Apart from the hygienic point of view, elephants need a daily shower for their skincare, and its not only physically important, its also important for their mental well being, especially for bulls in captivity.
Their are a number of our family who require various types of various ointments (depending on their condition) which we apply daily. This helps to keep their skin suppal and moist. If they have a nice pool, they might actually soak there for hours, but this is rare, in most cases they can only relax if there is a keeper nearby, We at the Hutsadin Foundation inspect each condition daily to ensure that wounds etc are maintained and kept as clean as possible at all time.
We have spent a great deal of time to ensure that once the new land has been purchased it is developed to cover all the needs of the Elephant as well as allowing visitors to see the full spectrum of a day in the life of an Elephant at Hutsadin. To this end please see below some artist impressions of what we are trying to achieve.
